Kunsthalle, Basel
Titel: Sans titre
Technique: wall painting with royal blue ink, ink eraser
Size: 5/8.9 m
Description:
This work was realised during the renovation of the Kunsthalle, when various artists were invited to work with one of the room situations.
This wall sized painting in ink and ink eraser, is an image of slowly flowing, layered and isolated movements. Smoothly glazing ink-stories are overlaying each other, flowing downwards, following the rules of gravity. From the thinned colour fields of ink, lines of ink eraser dissolve the silhouette of a semi-figure. Its head seems to be strangely dovetailed with a fish.
Bellet takes a lot of time for the forming of the painting. In this process of layering and dissolving color, the hazard plays an important part. The artist hardly controls the flow of the ink. The color flow across the wall, the fish-human figure and bunches of grass are immersing us into a underwater world of calm movement.
What is happening in this stream, what is now, what was here before? It is the sound of imagined, concrete and dreamful realities. In the wake of the exhibition, the light will slightly wither the painting and so it assumes the transient and fragile dimension of things, places and memories.
