Installation in my studio
Titel: in the corner of my memory
Technique: Two slide projection on canvas and on the wall
Description:
It is essential for this work, that it is installed in the artist’s studio. Two white canvases are standing in one of the corners, covered partly with a light cloth. An empty slide is projected onto this arrangement. As soon as we cross its beam, our own shadow appears in the projection.
This installation undermines the myth of the productive artist genius in the studio: The absence of the artists is emphasized by the fact that we cannot find any traces of the artist’s handwriting. Instead of a masterpiece, we find a static arrangement, emanating a sense of time-frieze. Once in a while, the beholder’s shadow becomes visible on the canvas and in that moment his personal presence is merging with the artists work.
In this concept, the authorship is completely negated, as if the artist has refused to create anything at all. However, this “nothingness” is the source of the work, as it opens a dimension, where the beholder magically changes position with the artist and even finds his own trace, the shadow, projected in the work.
